First Day of School
Dear Parents and Students,
I am really looking forward to meeting each of you on Wednesday morning, September 6th, in Grade 2B. I am very excited to be your second grade teacher for this school year. I hope that you are enjoying these last few days of summer vacation and getting ready for a fun filled year of learning.
Please remember to bring the following supplies with you to school, on your first day!

Puppet and Book Report
In preparation for Grade 2, over the summer months, your child was encouraged to read several books from a list of suggested authors.
This list was sent home with students accompanied by an attached book report form. After reading a favorite story, students were to complete the book report form, and create a puppet to represent one of the main characters in the story. Some possible materials used to make the puppet might be:

Directions for Weekly Spelling Homework
Spelling words will be introduced on Mondays. Students are encouraged to review their words during the week. A spelling test will take place every Friday.
The homework for spelling is as follow:
Monday- Write sentences using spelling words 1-7 in the composition book.
Tuesday- Put words in ABC order on the paper that will be provided that day.
Wednesday- Write sentences using spelling words 8-15 in the composition book.
Thursday- Write words 3 times each in the composition book.
Friday- Spelling Test!
The directions for how to set up each assignment, are printed on the inside cover of the composition book.
During the first few months of school, and throughout the school year, we will focus on friendship building. With shared readings, activities and learning experiences, students will understand the importance of practicing kindness, cooperation, and friendship within our school community and in the world.
